Vodafone UK pulls at the viewers’ heartstrings in its Christmas advert, created by Ogilvy UK and released with the tagline “The magic of connection”.
The spot, which aims to showcase the power of technology in connecting us, tells the story of a young boy with a leg in cast, who is not allowed by his dad to go out on a winter day. As he lies upset on the floor, in his all-red room (a reference at Vodafone’s colour), gets a message from his sister, who is outside, having fun bobbing. He is asked to look under his table, where she had left for him a haptic suit and a VR headset, which allows him to join in the experience in real-time over the Vodafone 5G network.
Serving as soundtrack is Andra Day’s 2015 single “Rise Up,” from her debut studio album, “Cheers to the Fall”.
The ad debuts on Friday, November 20, on ITV’s “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here” and Channel 4’s “Gogglebox”.
The “Magic of Connection” campaign also includes a special 5G-powered Christmas Light Display designed to “Brighten Up Britain”.
