Netflix has released the trailer for its upcoming adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier‘s gothic novel Rebecca, starring Armie Hamme and Lily James.
The movie, directed by Ben Wheatley, stars James as the female leading role, a naive British woman who falls for the mysterious Maxim de Winter and marries him. According to the official synopsis, after she arrives at her husband’s imposing family estate on a windswept English coast, she finds herself battling the shadow of his first wife Rebecca, whose legacy lives on in the house long after her death.
The cast also includes Kristin Scott Thomas as Keeley Hawes, Sam Riley, Ann Dowd and Tom Goodman-Hill.
The trailer, scored by a captivating song, gives viewers a glimpse at Rebecca’s encounter with Mr de Winter, who’s a widower, at her whirlwind romance with him, as well as at her torment once she moves in with him, at his imposing family estate at Manderlay.
Netflix will release Rebecca globally on October 21.
