Netflix has released the trailer for the upcoming film “i’ thinking of ending things”, from Academy Award winner Charlie Kaufman, the writer of “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “Being John Malkovich”.
Based on Iain Reid’s acclaimed novel, the movie revolves around a young woman (Jessie Buckley) who, despite second thoughts about their relationship, takes a road trip with her boyfriend, Jake (Jesse Plemons), to meet his parents. According to the official logline, the protagonist remains trapped at Jake family’s farm during a snowstorm with his mother (Toni Collette) and father (David Thewlis) and “begins to question the nature of everything she knew or understood about her boyfriend, herself, and the world”.
The trailer features Buckley’s character joining her boyfriend for the road trip to his remote family farm, where his parents live. The middle-aged couple welcome her with an unexpected question: “And you came anyway?” after she tells them that Jake had told her many things about them.
“I feel like I was seeing them as they were, seeing them as they will be, seeing them after they’re gone,” Buckley’s character says in voiceover. She is also heard saying “I’m thinking of ending things” multiple times throughout the trailer, which gets weird toward the end.
The film will be available for streaming exclusively on Netflix starting September 4.
