Netflix has released a teaser trailer for its upcoming sci-fi drama Away, starring two-time Academy Award winner Hilary Swank.
The film, from the visionary who brought you Friday Night Lights and Parenthood, stars Swank as Emma Green, an astronaut who leaves her husband and teen daughter behind and embarks on a treacherous mission to Mars, as the leader of an international crew, hailing from the United States, Russia, China, India, and Great Britain. According to the official synopsis, “If all goes well, they will be away from the place they call home and the people they love for three years. During this time, their relationships both on Earth and in space will be tested, as they struggle to stay alive and stay on track in pursuit of humanity’s most important goal”.
The cast also includes Josh Charles as her husband, Matt, Talitha Bateman as her daughter. The crew she’s commanding includes Russian cosmonaut and engineer Misha Popov (Mark Ivanir), British-Ghanaian world-renowned botanist Kwesi Weisberg-Adebayo (Ato Essandoh), Indian Air Force fighter pilot Ram Arya (Ray Panthaki), and Chinese chemist and astronaut Lu Wang (Vivian Wu).
The teaser features Swank looking a photo of her, her husband and daughter and saying in voiceover “I miss you, guys. I love you, guys, so much. I wish I could be with you right now”.
Away arrives on Netflix on Friday, September 4.
