Disney Plus has released the trailer for “Black Is King,” a film by Beyoncé.
Described as a new visual album inspired by The Lion King: The Gift, the movie reimagines the lessons from the 2019 blockbuster for today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns and will premiere two weeks after the one-year anniversary of the theatrical release of Disney’s global phenomenon, “The Lion King”.
The trailer features Beyoncé saying in voiceover as follows: “You, who were formed by the heat of the Galaxy. What a thing, to be both unique and familiar. To be one and the same. And still unlike any other. Life is a set of choices. Lead! Or be led astray! Follow your light! Or lose it. You can’t wear a crown with your head down”.
The song playing at the end of the trailer is “My Power,” performed by Tierra Whack, Beyoncé and Moonchild Sanelly feat. Nija.
Disney Plus’ lineup also includes the recording of the hit stage musical Hamilton, starring Daveed Diggs, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff, Christopher Jackson, and more. Inspired by the book “Alexander Hamilton” by Ron Chernow and directed by Thomas Kail, the film was released on July 3rd, 2020, as a Disney Plus exclusive.
Disney Plus costs $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year. There also is a $12.99-per-month option to bundle the service together with Hulu and ESPN+.
