Netflix has released the trailer for its upcoming fantasy drama series Warrior Nun, created by Simon Barry based on Ben Dun’s comic book series.
According to the official synopsis, the show revolves around an orphaned young girl (Alba Baptista) who, after being caught in the middle of an ancient war between good and evil, wakes up in a morgue with inexplicable powers.
She soon learns that has become part of a secret society of warrior nuns, called “The Order of the Cruciform Sword,” sworn to protect the world from evil and finds herself juggling her responsibilities as the chosen one with the normal obstacles of a teenage girl.
The cast also includes Toya Turner, Lorena Andrea, Kristina Tonteri-Young, and Tristán Ulloa.
“My whole life I’ve dreamed about being dead. I leave my body and I see myself from above… A normal girl. Until I wake up and realize I’m still the freak I’ve been my whole life. One thing I’ve learned since then. Life has a really fucked-up way of making your dreams come true,” Baptista’s character says in voiceover. Bearing the Halo, which enhances whatever natural abilities she already posseses and makes her the God’s champion, Ava needs to join powers with other members of The Order and fight an ancient evil.
The song used in the trailer is the 2019 single “A Palé” by Spanish singer and songwriter Rosalía, from her third studio album.
Season 1 of Warrior Nun is coming to Netflix next month, on July 2.
