Netflix has released the trailer for its upcoming original political drama limited series Stateless.
According to the official synopsis, “four strangers – a woman on the run, a brave refugee, a driven bureaucrat and a struggling dad – intersect at an Australian detention center”.
The refugee drama series, created by Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, Elise McCredie and Tony Ayres, based on the true story of Cornelia Rau, a German citizen and permanent resident of Australia who was unlawfully detained in 2004, stars Yvonne Strahovsky, Jai Courtney, Fayssal Bazzi, Asher Keddie, Dominic West, and Cate Blanchett herself.
Strahovsky, who plays an airline hostess on the run from a dangerous cult, joins an Afghan refugee and his family, a young father escaping a dead end job, and a bureaucrat who’s running out of time to contain a national scandal. The trailer shows how Strahovsky’s character is listed as a missing person and her sister is searching for her.
Blanchett plays a cult leader and Jai Courtney an officer who’s apparently getting physical with immigrants inside the detention center. At some point, Strahovsky is featured running across the desert.
Stateless, consisting of six episodes, will arrive on Netflix on 8th of July.
