Quibi has released the trailer for its upcoming series Royalties, which is a take on the oft-untold story of songwriters behind the world’s biggest hits.
The show, written by Darren Criss and directed by Clueless filmmaker Amy Heckerling and follows ragtag songwriting duo Sarah (Kether Donohue) and Pierce (Darren Criss) as they navigate the strange and hilarious challenges of creating great songs for insane artists, including the one of featuring every musical genre that has ever been in one song but keeping it simple at the same time.
The trailer features some of the songs composed by Sarah and Pierce, including “Take Your Shoes Off” for a red-haired singer who literally takes her high-heeled shoes off and shows how blood is falling from them, “Break it in,” for a rapper.
Chloe Grace Moretz also makes an appearance as the daughter of a wealthy middle-aged lady. When the latter says of one song that it’s going to be a big hit on MTV, her daughter tells her to get with the times and asks her if she has ever heard of Spotify.
Mark Hamill also makes an appearance in the series and on the album, playing what looks to be a country singer.
New music will follow each episode from June 1, when the series will premiere, through 10. The full official soundtrack will be released on June 12.
