Netflix has released a teaser trailer for its upcoming series Blood & Water.
The show, which marks the streaming service’s second original African series, is set in Cape Town and revolves around 16 year-old Puleng Khumalo (played by Ama Qamatawho) as she investigates the case of her older sister’s abduction at birth. After crossing paths at a party, she sets out to prove whether private-school swimming star Fikile “Fiks'” Bhele (played by Khosi Ngema) is her sister.
The cast also includes Thabang Molaba as Karabo “KB” Molapo, resident bad boy and high school heart throb, Dillon Windvogel as Wade, who becomes Puleng’s ally and assistant investigator, and Natasha Thahane as Wendy Dlamini, Gail Mabalane, Sello Maake, Arno Greef, Ryle De Morny, Getmore Sithole, Xolile Tshabalala, Sandi Schultz, Monique Rockman and Cindy Mahlangu.
The trailer gives viewers a glimpse into the protagonist’s life, without revealing too much tough. The soundtrack music is the 2018 single “Grrrl Like” by South African rapper Dope Saint Jude.
Directed by award winning Nosipho Dumisa (one of South Africa’s most recognisable black female directors), Blood & Water is expected to launch on Netflix on May 20.
