“Everyone needs a home, but not everyone has one to go to. #BeSomeonesHome”. This is the message conveyed by IKEA USA in its latest commercial, released to celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia & Biphobia.
The 60-second heartwarming video, which features a diverse cast from different walks of life, highlights that home should be “welcoming,” “safe,” “accepting,” “open to laughter,” “open to tears,” “open to who we are,” and “a space where everyone can be themselves”. “This can be you” an onscreen line reads while footage of various people alone and in the company of their loved ones is shown.
“Be someone’s home” another onscreen line reads at the end of the commercial, which is “for those who do not always feel welcome” and encourages viewers to “make people of all sexual orientations and gender identities feel at home everywhere, on 17 May, and every day”.
The soundtrack is “Last Chance (Alternate Version)” by rock musical group CHPTRS, from their 2018 album “Chapter Three”.
