BBC has released the trailer for the upcoming drama series I May Destroy You, which explores the question of sexual consent in contemporary life.
The show, from BAFTA award-winner Michaela Coel, stars Coel herself as Arabella, a Londoner with great friends, a boyfriend in Italy, a great place to live and a passion for wigs, whose life takes a dramatic turn after she’s spiked with a date-rape drug and assaulted in the bathroom of a nightclub, and can no longer “gather the pieces”.
The trailer gives viewers a glimpse into Arabella’s life before and after the tragic event and shows how she tries to put herself back together and struggles to come to terms with what has happened.
The cast also includes Weruche Opia, Paapa Essiedu, Aml Ameen, Adam James, Sarah Niles, Ann Akin, Harriet Webb, Ellie James, Franc Ashman, Karan Gill, Natalie Walter, and Samson Ajewole.
I May Destroy You, a co-production between HBO and BBC, described as a “fearless, frank and provocative half-hour series,” will launch on HBO and BBC on June 7.
