Beer brand Blue Moon aims to inspire people to crack open a Blue Moon beer more often in its latest ad, titled “Routine”.
The spot, created by DDB Chicago and directed Tim Godsall, depicts a world where “once in a blue moon” happens every day and follows a young woman (played by actress Dominique Bela) as she wakes up and witnesses extraordinary moments (that happen once in a blue moon) on her way to the office. First of all, looking through the window every morning, she sees fantastic things, including a man floating in the air while holding hundreds of balloons, a rainbow on a cloudy day, a blue robot-shaped balloon, a whale in the river crossing the city, a tree struck by thunderstrike, an old lady feeding eagles, and more.
At the end of the day, when she gets back home, she has a Blue Moon, either alone or with friends. “What if once in a blue moon happened more than once in a blue moon?” the voiceover asks at the end of the commercial, adding the tagline “Reach for the Moon”.
Serving as soundtrack is LLMK’s divine and sweet “Extraordinary”.
Dominique Bela has also starred in films such as Contrary, TV shows like The Making of the Mob: Chicago, and national commercial campaigns for various brands, including SharkNinja and Credit Karma.
“It was such an amazing experience. I was able to see Toronto, where the commercial was shot, from heights and angles I had never witnessed before. We got to shoot in very iconic locations. It was a wonderful team. I got to pretend to sleep, have a morning commute, present in a boardroom – which is actually really fun, experiencing someone else’s reality,” she said.
