HBO has released the trailer for its upcoming series Run, starring Domhnall Gleeson and Emmy winner Merritt Wever.
Created by Vicky Jones and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the half-hour comedy follows, according to the official synopsis, “a woman whose humdrum life is thrown upside down when she receives a text from her college sweetheart inviting her to drop everything and meet him in New York to fulfill the pact they made 17 years previously”.
Wever plays Ruby Richardson, who flies to New York after receiving the text from her college ex-boyfriend, Billy Johnson (Gleeson), and reunites with him on a cross-country train. “As their adventure begins, Ruby and Billy fight the tension that still exists between them while attempting to root out each other’s secrets.” the plot also reads.
The trailer gives viewers a glimpse into the series, without revealing too much, though. One thing is certain: one day, she receives a text message that reads “RUN” from him and she texts him back with the same word. Despite the fact that he’s apparently having a perfect life, she believes he’s hiding something and, judging by some of the scenes featured throughout the trailer, her intuition is not wrong.
The song used in the trailer is “Nobody Speak” by DJ Shadow feat. Run The Jewels.
Run, which also stars Archie Panjabi, Rich Sommer, Tamara Podemski, and Waller-Bridge, premieres April 12 at 10:30 pm.
