Zalando, one of Europe’s largest online shops, has released its Christmas commercial, highlighting that, despite our difference, at Christmas, we always come together.
The spot, created by Mother and directed by Sam Hibbard through Somesuch, features a young man as he takes his grandmother (played by model Frances Dunscombe) to a multigenerational Christmas party. Set to the rhythms of T-Rex’s “Cosmic Dancer,” the ad illustrates how the duo, alongside many other party attendants, show off their dancing skills and have a good time all together, on this occasion, despite the differences between them.
Zalando has always opted for original ways to advertise its collections. Its Fall/Winter 2019 campaign film, titled “Free to be” and scored by “She’s My Sunshine” by LA-born pop artist Celeste, featured a diverse cast of individuals who have overcome though challenges over the years. Among them are Gurl Power activist Adwoa Aboah, plus-size model Felicity Hayward, who used rejection to empower her to redefine body norms, fashion icon Rain Dove, who has redefined gender norms, Alice Hurel, who overcame her insecurities about alopecia growing up to redefine and own her beauty, and South African dancer Leroy Mokgatle, who challenged and overcame the traditional ballet physique.
