Netflix has released the trailer for Daybreak, its upcoming original sci-fi series, described as “a genre-smashing, fourth-wall-breaking action-comedy”.
According to the official synopsis, the show, is set in post-apocalyptic LA and revolves around a slacker who’s living his best life and strives to find the girl of his dreams while outwitting mindless ghouls and cliquish gangs.
The cast includes Colin Ford in the leading role, Matthew Broderick as the High School principal, Krysta Rodriguez, Sophie Simnett, Austin Crute, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Cody Kearsley, Jeanté Godlock, and Gregory Kasyan.
The trailer gives viewers a glimpse into the city of Glendale, California, which is populated, according to the official synopsis, “by marauding gangs of jocks, gamers, the 4-H Club, and other fearsome tribes who are kicking ass as they fight to survive in the wake of a nuclear blast (on the night of Homecoming…ugh).” Ford’s character, 17-year-old Josh Wheeler, is also featured in a relationship with Sophie Simnett’s character, Sam Dean, the most widely admired girl at Glendale High.
Serving as soundtrack is “I Melt With You” by American Christian alternative rock band Samestate, from their 2012 The Covers EP.
Daybreak, also described as “part samurai saga, part endearing coming-of-age story, and part Battle Royale,” is set to premiere on the streaming service later this month, on October 24.
