Volkswagen showcases, in one of its latest ads, the new up! GTI.
The 30-second spot, titled “Excitement up!graded with the new up! GTI,” features a diverse cast doing a variety of activities, such as riding a horse (to illustrate horsepower), showing off muscles, enjoying a ride with the kids in the backseat, and more. “up!grade horsepower,” “up!grade fun with more fun,” “up!grade testosterone,” “up!grade family,” “excitement upgraded,” “the new up! GTI,” “The easiest way to join the GTI-Family,” onscreen lines read throughout the video, which shows a pre-production vehicle with optional equipment.
Launched in 2018, four decades after the first Golf GTI, the new up! GTI has a 85 kW/115 PS turbocharged engine with a fuel consumption of only 5.7 to 5.6 liters per 100 km. Equipped with a gasoline particulate filter, it reaches a top speed of 196 km/h and can accelerate to 100 km/h from standstill in 8.8 seconds, according to the automaker.
The hatchback received, last year, the “autonis” award for design excellence, with the model coming top of its category.
