Netflix has released the trailer for its upcoming film Otherhood, starring Angela Bassett, Patricia Arquette, and Felicity Huffman.

The film, from creative minds behind Bad Moms and Sex and the City, revolves around Gillian (Arquette), Helen (Huffman) and Carol (Bassett), long time friends who, feeling marginalized and forgotten, embark on a road trip to New York to reconnect with their adult sons, whom they take by surprise with their visit. According to the official synopsis, in the process, the three women “realize their sons are not the only ones whose lives need to change” and “a journey to relate becomes a journey of rediscovery that forces these women to redefine their relationships with their children, friends, spouses and most importantly, themselves”.

Directed by Sex and the City alum Cindy Chupack in her narrative feature debut, the film also stars Jake Hoffman, Jake Lacy, Sinqua Walls and Heidi Gardner.

The trailer gives viewers a glimpse into the lives of the three women, as well as into the relationship they have with their sons. “At this stage, it doesn’t feel like motherhood. It feels like otherhood,” says Gillian at the beginning of the trailer, which opens with the trio complaning that they feel neglected on Mother’s Day. They soon decide to drive to New York on a “mission”: to reconnect with their sons. Their journey to Manhattan also includes a shopping session, makeovers, drinks and going clubbing.

The song used in the trailer is the 2015 single “Just Our Style” by Wayfarers.

Otherhood premieres on the streaming service this summer, on 2 August.
