20th Century FOX has released the official trailer for the upcoming film The Art of Racing in the Rain, based on the best-selling novel by Garth Stein.
Directed by Simon Curtis, the movie is – according to the official synopsis – “a heartfelt tale narrated by a witty and philosophical dog named Enzo” (voiced by Kevin Costner), who, through his bond with his owner, Denny Swift (Milo Ventimiglia), an aspiring Formula One race car driver, “has gained tremendous insight into the human condition and understands that the techniques needed on the racetrack can also be used to successfully navigate the journey of life”.
The cast also includes Amanda Seyfried as Swift’s wife, Eve, Ryan Kiera Armstrong as their young daughter, Zoe, Gary Cole, Kathy Baker, and Martin Donovan.
The trailer opens with the story of how Swift picked Enzo up from a bunch of paws and tails. “Call it faith, call it luck. All I knew was I was meant to be his dog,” Enzo “says”, while on screen footage of him spending time with Swift at the racetrack and growing is featured. Swift’s encounter with Eve and their wedding are also shown, with Enzo’s narrative in the background.
“This summer, meet the dog who will show the world how to be human,” onscreen lines read throughout the trailer, which is set to the tune of the 2018 single “Great Wide Open” by Thirty Seconds to Mars, from the band’s fifth studio album, “America”.
The Art of Racing in the Rain hits theaters August 9.
