This summer, Netflix invites you to experience three new stories about the future we should have seen coming. The streaming service has released the trailer for the fifth season of its award-winning series Black Mirror, giving viewers a glimpse at the protagonists of the three new chapters that “changed how you see technology, the future, the world, each other, love, privacy, connection, sex, family, work, afterlife”.
Season 5 of the sci-fi anthology series created by Charlie Brooker, that explores “a twisted, high-tech near-future where humanity’s greatest innovations and darkest instincts collide,” stars Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Miley Cyrus, Topher Grace, Andrew Scott, Damson Idris, Nicole Beharie, Angourie Rice, Pom Klementieff, Madison Davenport and Ludi Lin.
Judging by the intense trailer, the upcoming episodes will also tackle at a deeper level topics like virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and smart technology, in addition to the state of social media. A young schoolgirl named Rachel who says she doesn’t have many friends is encouraged by a social robot and she becomes a pop star (played by Cyrus) with thousands of fans waiting for her to get on stage.
Black Mirror returns to Netflix this summer, on June 5.
