Netflix has released a teaser for its upcoming drama series The Society, described as a modern take on “Lord of the Flies”.
The show, created by Chris Keyser, revolves around a group of teenagers who find themselves into an exact replica of their wealthy New England town, but without their parents and no governing officials. In an attempt to re-create society, the youngsters begin finding a group to belong to, shifting alliances, and figuring out how to survive with each other.
The cast includes Kathryn Newton, Gideon Adlon, Rachel Keller, Alex Fitzalan, Kristine Froseth, Jacques Colimon, Sean Berdy, Toby Wallace, Olivia DeJonge, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Alex MacNicoll, Jose Julian, Salena Qureshi, Grace Victoria Cox, and Jack Mulhern.
The teaser features Newton’s character, Allie, trying to reach her mother by leaving a voicemail and letting her know that “things got bad”. “Mom, it’s me again. Where is everyone? It’s been nine days. We’re all alone. Some of us thought it would be fun, to be in charge of ourselves. But things got bad,” she says frightened.
Viewers are also given a glimpse of the chaos that’s erupted in the town, while in the background Billie Eilish’s 2019 single “Bury a Friend” (from her debut studio album, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”) is playing.
Season 1 of The Society, consisting of 10 episodes, will be released on the streaming service next month, on May 10.
