Netflix has released the trailer for the upcoming series See You Yesterday, described as “a sci-fi adventure grounded in familial love, cultural divides and the universal urge to change the wrongs of the past”.
The show, from director Stefon Bristol and producer Spike Lee, revolves around high school best friends and science prodigies C.J. and Sebastian, who, according to the official synopsis, “spend every spare minute working on their latest homemade invention: backpacks that enable time travel.” When C.J.’s 19-year-old brother, Calvin, dies after being shot by an NYPD officer, the young duo, willing to bring Calvin back, decide to put their unfinished tech to use.
The cast ensemble includes Eden Duncan-Smith and Dante Crichlow in the leading roles, Astro as Calvin Walker, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Wavyy Jonez, Damaris Lewis, and others.
The trailer shows how C.J’s brother gets killed and the two friends embark on trips back in the past to save Calvin. However, at some point, CJ realizes that what they are trying to do is “about controlling something we obviously have no control over”. Things seem to get really intense and more complicated when they only have two jumps left.
The song used in the trailer is the 1985 hit single “Ring the Alarm” by Jamaican dancehall singjay Tenor Saw, from his 1985 album “Fever”.
See You Yesterday premieres 17 May, only on Netflix.
