Hulu has released the trailer for its upcoming original crime anthology series The Act, based on the true events surrounding the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard, which was also the subject of an HBO documentary and a Lifetime movie.
The show stars Patricia Arquette as Dee Dee Blanchard, a Missouri mother who’s apparently taking good care of her daughter, Gypsy, and Joey King as Gypsy Blanchard. Chloe Sevigny, Annasophia Robb, and Calum Worthy are also part of the cast in the first season.
The trailer shows Gypsy trying to escape the toxic relationship she has with her mother, who was making her appear younger and chronically ill. Always in a wheelchair and with her head shaved, the girl proves, in one of the scenes, she doesn’t know her own age. She later discovers the real year of her birth, which is only one of the dark secrets that go to the surface.
The Act is set to premiere on the streaming service later this month, on March 20.
