Vodka brand Absolut celebrates all the Australians who have said “I do” since marriage equality passed in November 2017, in a new commercial, titled “Absolut Love”.
The 30-second spot opens with a knot in the colours of the LGBTQ community and features dozens of name combinations that stand for same-sex couples. “Congratulations on tying the knot,” an onscreen line reads, while in the background the song “We Can Be One” performed by Lee Richardson, Jonathon Murrill, Tom Ford, James Cocozza, Raxstar, Aaron Kaplan & James Jamison Hollister (from the 2018 album “Gospel Rap”) is playing.
At the end of the ad the line “Absolut Love” and the brand’s slogan, “Create a better tomorrow,” are flashing across the screen.
In 2017, when Australia voted on same-sex marriage, Absolut and its competitor Skyy joined forces to support marriage equality. The two brands posted on their social media accounts a message encouraging Australians to put their differences aside and embrace diversity by giving a ‘yes’ vote for same sex marriage, highlighting that, “if two rival brands can unite to support equality, so can all of us”.
