Lionsgate has released the official trailer for the upcoming thrilling Western The Kid, featuring Ethan Hawke, Dane DeHaan, and Jake Schur.
According to the official synopsis, the movie, from director Vincent D’Onofrio, follows Rio (Schur), a young boy “forced to go on the run across the American Southwest in a desperate attempt to save his sister (Leila George) from his villainous uncle (Chris Pratt).” Throughout his journey, he finds himself increasingly entwined in the lives of Sheriff Pat Garrett (Ethan Hawke), who is on the hunt for Billy the Kid (Dane DeHaan), an infamous outlaw.
“Ultimately Rio is forced to choose which type of man he is going to become, the outlaw or the man of valor, and will use this self-realization in a final act to save his family,” the official synopsis also reveals.
The trailer, set to the tune of the 2013 single “Heaven Knows” by American rock band The Pretty Reckless, from their second studio album, Going to Hell, gives viewers a glimpse into the relationship that unfolds between the characters, without revealing too much, though. Intense fight scenes, gunshots, and duels are the main ingredients, apparently, but words of wisdom are also there. At the end of the trailer, which features Pratt’s character threatening his nephew, Rio, with a gun, Hawke’s character Garrett tells him, referring to some cuffed men witnessing the scene, “Every single one of these people is going to tell a tale about you. (…) It don’t matter what’s true. It matters the story they tell when you’re gone”.
The film will be released in theaters on March 8th, 2019.
