Google references several famous Hollywood movies in its commercial for the 91st Academy Awards.
Released with the tagline “#HeyGoogle, Let’s Go to the Movies,” the 60-second spot, also available as shorter versions, features Made by Google devices in iconic scenes of new and classic movies, including 2001: A Space Odyssey, Jerry Maguire, Lady Bird, Scream, and The Hangover. The latter, for instance, and Lady Bird advertise the Pixel 3 XL, 2001: A Space Odyssey advertises the Home Mini, Google’s smallest smart speaker that runs Assistant, and Scream and Jerry McGuire advertise the Google Home.
The commercial, scored by The Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop,” ends with a scene of Deadpool asking the Google Assistant on the Google Home Hub what’s on his calendar on February 24 and, informed that he has an appearance scheduled in a Google commercial, he replies that “that’s never gonna happen”. Finally, the Assistant logo and a link to Googlestore are flashing across the screen.
