Porsche aims to bring people close to the California dream with its latest commercial, showcasing the Porsche 911.
The spot, titled “California Dreaming the Porsche Way,” features owners of different Porsche 911 models driving through the cities or down the roads of sunny California, while in the background the iconic 1965 single “California Dreamin'” performed by The Mamas & The Papas is playing. Surfers going to the ocean to ride the waves, a father with his toddler, a woman who stopped by a coffee shop to grab a cup of coffee on her way to work, and more are featured throughout the ad, which concludes with the onscreen lines “Who says you can’t choose your family? Welcome to ours”.
In 2016, the automaker has tapped photographer Stefan Bogner to capture the latest generation of Porsche 911 along the Pacific coast. Bogner spent a few days through the curves of California, visiting the Mojave Desert, Joshua Tree National Park, Palm Springs, and Los Angeles in his attempt to capture feelings and show why his pictures of curves are so unique.
Reveiled in December 2018, at the Los Angeles 2018 Motor Show, the eighth generation of Porsche 911 is described as “bigger and more powerful than ever.” The S version will be the first to go on sale, later this year, in March, with its 3.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with 450bhp in standard or 4S four-wheel drive forms.
The all-new interior boasts a 10.9in central touchscreen along with new options such as a thermal imaging camera and a certain level of autonomous driving with adaptive cruise control.
All initial cars will also come with a new eight-speed twin-clutch semi-automatic, with the manual and standard non-S versions of the 911 joining the range later next year as, eventually, will cabriolet and targa derivatives.
