Walmart urges people to “Light Up Cyber Monday” in one of its latest ads, informing that Cyber Monday starts at 12 am EST on November 26, 2018.
The 15-second spot features several persons as they get ready to start shopping at Walmart.com on Cyber Monday, at 12am. While some of them are still awake, already with their smartphones in their hands, others have set up an alarm to wake them up so that they could be able to enjoy amazing deals on the items they’ve wanted. While a guy is looking for a PlayStation 4 Gaming Console, a woman, already lying in her bed, lights off, is looking at a Samsung 55″ TV. There are also a couple in their bed, willing to make some purchases before going to sleep and a mother with her baby in her arms, looking at an offer on her smartphone, in the Walmart app.
The soundtrack music is a rendition of the traditional folk song “Midnight Special,” a song that has been covered by many artists over the decades. First commercially recorded in 1926 as “Pistol Pete’s Midnight Special” by Dave “Pistol Pete” Cutrell (a member of McGinty’s Oklahoma Cow Boy Band), the track has been subsequently recorded by many others. Folk/bluegrass musicians Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper, for instance, had a top 5 country hit with the song in 1959 as “Big Midnight Special”. Johnny Rivers, Paul Evans, Eric Clapton, Otis Rush, Creedence Clearwater Revival, whose version of the song appeared on their 1969 album Willy and the Poor Boys, are also among the dozens of musicians who covered the song.
