BBC has released a teaser trailer for the upcoming dance talent show The Greatest Dancer, from Simon Cowell, coming soon to BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
The eight-part series, which marks the first collaboration of The X-Factor and Britain’s Got Talent creator with the BBC, aims to uncover the UK’s best dancers from every background – ballet, jazz, tap, jive, tango, Bollywood, hip hop, and more.
“By launching The Greatest Dancer we want to give the vast array of dance talent across the UK the chance to shine,” Kate Phillips, Controller of Entertainment Commissioning for the BBC, said in a press statement.
Contestants will have to audion in front of a panel of judges and, after various rounds, they will have the chance to perform in the live finals for the great cash prize of £50,000 and the title of “UK’s Greatest Dancer”.
The all-star panel of judges/mentors (also called “Dance Captains”) are Cheryl Cole, Broadway and Glee star Matthew Morrison, and professional latin American ballroom dancer, Oti Mabuse, best known for her work on Strictly Come Dancing and German series Let’s Dance.
The show will be co-hosted by Alesha Dixon, who won Strictly Come Dancing back in 2007 and was then bumped up to a judge in 2009, and Jordan Banjo, who won Britain’s Got Talent in 2009 with his troupe, Diversity, and presented backstage for Sky1’s Got to Dance and ITV’s Dancing on Ice.
The Greatest Dancer is set to premiere early 2019 and air on Saturday nights.
The teaser, which features the show’s hosts, Cole and Oti Mabuse, is scored by the 2016 hit single “The Greatest” by Australian singer and songwriter Sia for the deluxe edition of her seventh studio album, This Is Acting, featuring vocals from American rapper Kendrick Lamar.
