Paramount Pictures has released a teaser trailer for the upcoming epic musical fantasy Rocketman, about the uncensored human story of Sir Elton John’s breakthrough years.
Directed by Dexter Fletcher from a script by Lee Hall, the film chronicles Elton John’s life, from his years as a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music through his influential and enduring musical partnership with Bernie Taupin. Taron Egerton, who portrays the legendary artist, is joined by Jamie Bell as Bernie Taupin, Richard Madden, Bryce Dallas Howard, Gemma Jones, Steven Mackintosh and more.
“There are moments in a rock star’s life that define who he is. Where there is darkness, there is no you. And it’s going to be a wild ride,” Egerton is heard saying in voiceover as the teaser trailer gives viewers a glimpse into Elton John’s life, featuring him in the recording studio, on stage, as well as at parties, with plenty of alcohol. A shot also features Egerton levitating while playing the piano and singing Rocketman at Los Angeles’ Troubadour, where he made his debut (on August 25, 1970, at the age of 23) and marked a key moment in his career.
The song he’s playing is “Rocket Man”, which appeared on his 1972 album Honky Château and became a hit single.
Rocketman launches into theatres Summer 2019.
