A first teaser trailer for the upcoming adventure movie John Henry and the Statesmen, starring Dwayne Johnson, has been released.
The film, launched by Seven Bucks Productions (a multi-platform production company co-founded by Dwayne Johnson and producing partner Dany Garcia) and Beau Flynn’s FlynnPicturesCo. for Netflix, tells the story of John Henry and other American folk legends.
Johnson will serve as a producer on the film in addition to starring as John Henry and leading an ensemble cast of the most popular figures from folklore and legend from all around the world.
Set to Johnny Cash’s 2002 song “The Man Comes Around,” from his 87th studio album, “American IV: The Man Comes Around,” the teaser trailer features the silhouette of a man on a field, in the long grass, the back of a man holding a sword as he’s walking toward a wooden door and opens it, passing from the darkness into an almost blinding light.
“The legend is real. Coming Soon.” onscreen lines read at the end of the video.
Recent news inform that the streaming service has secured the rights to the film, which is an original pitch from writer Tom Wheeler, set to be directed by Jake Kasdan (director of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle). “This is a story with universal appeal and we can’t wait to bring these characters to families around the globe,” Scott Stuber, head of Netflix’s film group, said in a press statement. In a post on his Twitter account, Dwayne Johnson wrote “Honored to play a childhood hero of mine, JOHN HENRY & his disruptive band of fellow folklore legends from around the world. @netflix are the perfect partners and platform to build”.
The film will be released on Netflix in 2019.
