NBC has released a promo for the musical Hair Live! – The Live Musical for a New Generation, which will be broadcast in the spring of 2019 in front of a live audience.
From the Emmy Award-winning team behind the acclaimed rock musical “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert”, the new original rock musical “Hair Live!” “tells the story of a group of politically active hippies living a bohemian life in New York while fighting against and resisting the Vietnam War.” The official synopsis reveals that “Claude, his good friends Berger and Sheila, and their “tribe” are coming of age in the world of the sexual revolution while struggling with their rebellion against the war and their conservative parents and society. Claude must decide whether to resist the draft, as his friends have done, or to succumb to the pressures of conservative America to serve in Vietnam, compromising his principles and beliefs.” After an off-Broadway debut on October 17, 1967, the show opened on Broadway in April 1968 and ran for 1,750 performances, becoming a cultural phenomenon.
The song used in the trailer is “The Flesh Failures (Let the Sunshine In)”, the finale number from the original 1967 rock musical Hair.
