SHOWTIME has released the official trailer for its upcoming series Escape At Dannemora, based on the prison break in upstate New York in the summer of 2015 which spawned a statewide manhunt for two convicted murderers.
Written and executive produced by Brett Johnson (Mad Men) and Oscar nominee Michael Tolkin (The Player), the show stars Benicio Del Toro as convicted murderer Richard Matt, “an artistic yet intimidating force within the prison, who masterminds the escape,” Paul Dano as David Sweat, a convicted cop-killer who becomes a partner in Richard Matt’s plot, and Patricia Arquette as Tilly Mitchell, “a 51-year-old working class wife and mother who supervises the prison tailor shop and becomes sexually involved with both men, ultimately agreeing to hide hacksaw blades in frozen hamburger meat to help them get out.” The cast also features Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Bonnie Hunt, acclaimed actor Eric Lange and Emmy nominee David Morse.
The trailer shows how Arquette’s character, Tilly, who’s been with the same man for 21 years, becomes involved with the two convicted murderers and helps them to implement their escape plan. Footage illustrating the statewide manhunt for the two fugitives is also included, while in the background Elton John’s 1970 single “Take Me to the Pilot”, from his eponymous second album.
The series is scheduled to premiere this fall, on November 18 at 10pm ET/PT.
