In 2009, The Vampire Diaries launched its spectacular eight season run. In 2013, its first spinoff, The Originals, was born, and received critical acclaim, being described as a “deliciously dark drama” (E! Online), “As steamy, bloody as the original” (Common Sense Media). This year, The Originals will say goodbye as a new generation is born. The CW unveiled on Saturday, July 21, during its panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the official first trailer for Legacies, the next chapter in the Vampire Diaries saga, which follows 17-year-old Hope Mikaelson, a tribrid daughter of a Vampire/Werewolf hybrids – Klaus and Hayley, as she makes her way in the world.
“My name is Hope Mikaelson. I come from a long line of the villains in your stories. I’m the daughter of a werewolf and a vampire, the granddaughter of an evil witch. They call me the Tribrid, I’m the only one of my kind. I’m born from evil, fighting every day to be good. There’s no place in the world for someone like me, except one, the Salvatore School. The locals think we’re a school for troubled rich kids – the troubled part is true.” Hope (played by Danielle Rose Russell) is heard saying in voiceover. She reveals that when she broke one of the rules and allowed a local boy to enter her life, she opened the door to something bigger than both of them, “something bigger than the school, its secrets”, something that can burn them to their knees. She also says “This is a story of magic. Of secrets and betrayals. First loves and first heartbreaks. It’s a story of friendship and family, of battling our own demons so we can face the monsters around us. This is a story, our story, of trying to be normal in a world that’s anything but.” and raises a question, only one, “Will we be its heroes, or its villains?”.
The trailer is scored by the 2017 song “Deep State” by Antoinette Halliday & Louise Dowd, which appears on the album “The Song Method 3”.
Legacies premieres Thursday, Oct. 25 at 9/8c on The CW.
