Pirelli gives people a behind the scenes look at its 2019 calendar, shot by renowned Scottish photographer Albert Watson.
Julia Garner, Misty Copeland, Laetitia Casta, and Gigi Hadid – the four women cast down to appear in the Italian tire company’s next year calendar, as well as their scene companions, namely model Astrid Eika, ballet dancers Calvin Royal III and Sergei Polunin, and fashion designer Alexander Wang, are featured on set, as they pose under the direction of Watson, who seeks to narrate the women’s journey to fulfilling their goals in life.
The soundtrack music is “Nowhere To Hide” by Gresby Nash & Louise Dowd & Toni Halliday.
Shooting took place on several locations in Miami, including a strip club where Misty Copeland portrayed a stripper, and at the Carlyle Hotel in New York. Like last year’s calendar, which was a reimagining of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” conceived by Tim Walker, featuring an all-black cast, the 2019 edition will be narrative-driven. Letitia Casta is portrayed as a painter who lives in a contemporary down-town loft with her boyfriend (Sergey Polunin), a dancer, Copeland plays a stripper who, with her boyfriend (American Ballet Theatre star Calvin Royal III), dreams of celebrity, Garner portrays a botanical photographer and aspiring portraitist, with Eika as her model, and Hadid portrays a wealthy, yet melancholic woman who finds comfort in her best friend (Wang).
The 2019 calendar, which will mark Pirelli’s 46th edition, is set for release in early December 2018.
