The award-winning series Insecure, co-created by and starring Issa Rae, returns this summer with its third chapter. HBO has released the official trailer for the upcoming season, set to premiere Sunday, August 12 at 10:30PM.
The comedy show, based on Rae’s New York Times bestseller The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, published in 2015, explores the black female experience. Rae stars as Issa and Yvonne Orji stars as Molly. According to the official synopsis, “Over the course of the season, Issa attempts to figure out what she wants out of life and how to take control of it, while fumbling her way through this journey. Molly, a corporate attorney who appears to have everything together professionally, struggles inside as she looks for external ways to fix her life. Meanwhile, Issa’s boyfriend, Lawrence (Jay Ellis), who has fallen victim to complacency, works to get his own act together. Frieda (Lisa Joyce), Issa’s overeager white co-worker, whose enthusiasm is both annoying and endearing, is at the crux of Issa’s racial frustrations at work”.
The trailer features Issa saying she’s been working a full-time job and she’s been saving, and, when she’s informed that she doesn’t have enough money to move on her own, wants to know why she keeps getting rejected from all those apartments. “You almost burned down the last one,” Issa is reminded, which makes her highlight that “They don’t know that, though”.
Issa is also seen revealing to her friends her intention to tell Daniel that she is going to stay longer at his place, but her friends don’t think this is a good idea at all, judging by their reaction.
The song used in the trailer is the 2018 single “I Got The Juice” by Janelle Monáe feat. Pharrell Williams, from her third studio album, “Dirty Computer,” which was released in April 2018.
