Spotify has released a hilarious commercial starring Cardi B to promote her debut album, “Invasion of Privacy”, now available on the streaming service.
The spot features the Bronx native rapper as a music teacher, asking her class to repeat after her some lines. If “meow” is quite easy, the rap part, from the track “Get Up 10”, leaves her students openmouthed.
Launched on April 6, Invasion of Privacy includes several things that had people talking, from many Beyoncé references, a hot proposition for Chrissy Teigen and Rihanna, and samples of Meek Mill’s own “Dreams and Nightmares Intro”, Pete Rodriguez’s “I Like It Like That” and Project Pat’s “Chickenhead”. Described as “one of the most powerful debuts of this millennium” by Variety, the album includes the pre-released singles “Bodak Yellow,” “Bartier Cardi,” “Be Careful,” and “Drip”, and features appearances from Kehlani, YG, SZA, Chance the Rapper, Bad Bunny, J Balvin, and more.
The former stripper and social media star, who gained exposure as a popular cast member of VH1’s reality show Love & Hip Hop: New York, a show that marked her television debut in late 2015, is engaged to Migos’ Offset since last October. After months of speculation, on Saturday, April 7, during her performance on Saturday Night Live, which was hosted by Black Panther’s Chadwick Boseman, she revealed her pregnancy bump wearing a bodycon white gown. In the ad, her stomach is hidden behind the stand.
The Bodak Yellow rapper is not the first artist to have her own Spotify commercial. Ed Sheeran also stars in a festive ad, celebrating his status of “the most streamed artist in 2017”. Milo Manheim, Meg Donnelly & Kylee Russell, who perform BAMM, the first track from the new Disney Channel original movie Zombies, are another example in this regard.
