After the teaser dropped yesterday, April 4, Universal Pictures released today the first trailer for the upcoming Johnny English film, titled Johnny English Strikes Again.
Rowan Atkinson reprises his role as the accidental secret agent who, this time, is called out of retirement to embark on a special mission: find the mastermind hacker behind the cyber-attack that revealed the identity of all active undercover operatives in the UK. Written by William Davies and directed by David Kerr, the comedy film, which marks the third installment in the Johnny English series, follows English as he deals with the challenges of digital technology on his quest to catch the criminal. Ben Miller, who returns as the ever helpful Angus Bough, Emma Thompson, who plays the new Prime Minister, and Olga Kurylenko, who plays the villain, co-star.
“In 2018, the world’s greatest spy is back.” onscreen lines read at the beginning of the trailer, where a dramatic cover version of Bonnie Tyler’s “I Need a Hero” (recorded by the Welsh singer for the soundtrack to the 1984 film Footloose) is used. English, who works as a teacher at a prep school, is seen teaching his students holding a champagne glass and making a compliment before saying “Cheers”. Set out on his new mission, which involves travelling to the south of France, he tackles virtual reality, French cyclists, magnetic boots, and more.
The second song used in the trailer is the 2015 single “Sax” by British singer Fleur East, which is her debut single, included on her first studio album, Love, Sax and Flashbacks.
Johnny English Strikes Again is scheduled to be released in the US on September 20 and in the UK on October 12.
