Lionsgate has released a first trailer for the upcoming comedy, The Spy Who Dumped Me, starring Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon.
The two actresses play Audrey and Morgan, two best friends in Los Angeles who, according to the official synopsis, are unexpectedly “thrust into an international conspiracy when Audrey’s ex-boyfriend (Justin Theroux) shows up at their apartment with a team of deadly assassins on his trail.” As they start running throughout Europe from assassins and a British agent, the duo jump into action and try to hatch a plan to save the world.
The cast also includes Justin Theroux, Gillian Anderson, Hasan Minhaj, Ivanna Sakhno, and Sam Heughan.
“In 2018, women are killing it,” an onscreen line reads at the beginning of the trailer, soundtracked by Michael Bublé’s version of “Feeling Good”. Kunis and McKinnon are then seen huffing and puffing after running away from a group of motorcyclists chasing them. In her attempt to escape, they steal the car of a senior couple, but soon end up leaving it as it turns out the car is too old and they don’t know how to drive it.
Interrogated by the British agent (Sam Heughan) about her boyfriend, who it turns out is a spy, Kunis says he dumped her. She and McKinnon deal with a series of unexpected challenges and the action-packed trailer reveals some of them. Hilarious scenes are also blend in, especially at the end, when the two friends become prisoners and are asked to tell everything they know. After being kicked in the face by a character played by Ivanna Sakhno, McKinnon says she’ll tell her everything she wants to know, adding that she has never kept a secret in her life. The duo start then listing all kind of personal things about each other, such as ” Audrey shaves between her boobs”, “Morgan flosses with her hair,” “she (Audrey) googled on my computer and now I get a lot of weird ads”.
Directed by Susanna Fogel from a script she wrote with David Iserson, the film is set to be released this summer, on August 3.
