Halle Berry is a hardworking single mother of eight who finds herself and her family in danger out on the streets in the upcoming drama film Kings.
Written and directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven, the film is set in Los Angeles 1992 and revolves around Berry’s character, Millie, who has eight children living in her house and soon brings home another. Following the acquittal of four of the officers accused of beating Rodney King and the riots taking place in the city, she finds herself in a situation where, helped by her neighbor Obie (played by Daniel Craig), the only white man living in that area, which is largely inhabited by African Americans, Latinos, and Koreans, she must navigate the chaos to bring her kids home safely.
The trailer does not only feature scenes from the film, but also reviews made by important publications, after the premiere. The Guardian described the movie as “Powerful”, Variety described it as “the most daring film of the year”, The Hollywood Reporter said it goes “from a lit fuse to a full-scale explosion”. The soundtrack music is “This Shadows” (STYX: Shards of Darkness song) by Nashville-based singer/songwriter Marc Scibilia.
Kings premiered at TIFF in 2017 and is set to hit theaters this spring on April 27, 2018.
