BBC America has released the trailer for its upcoming thriller series Killing Eve, starring Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer.
Adapted by Phoebe Waller-Bridge from Luke Jennings’s novellas, the show revolves around two women obsessed with each other, who go head to head in a game of cat and mouse. According to the official synopsis, Eve, played by Sandra Oh, is a “bored, whip-smart, pay-grade MI5 security officer whose desk-bound job doesn’t fulfill her fantasies of being a spy”, and Villanelle, played by Jodie Comer, is “a mercurial, talented killer who clings to the luxuries her violent job affords her”.
The trailer opens with Oh’s character looking at a cracked glass window and Comer’s character, who it turns out is a coldblooded killer, stabbing an old man with a sharp object. “I know you are an extraordinary person, exceptionally bright. Determined. I know something happened to you. I know you’re a psychopath,” Oh’s voice is heard saying in the background in a conversation with Comer’s character, who is seen in the meantime smiling at a little girl while they’re both eating ice cream in an ice cream shop and then dumping the girl’s ice cream in her lap and smiling on her way out. “You should never tell a psychopath they are a psychopath, it upsets them,” Comer’s character answers. “Are you upset?”, Oh asks and Comer nods, with an exaggerated frown on her face as if she was a sad little girl.
The song used in the trailer is the 2013 single “Killer Shangri-Lah” by Pshychotic Beats.
Killing Eve, starring also Fiona Shaw, David Haig, Kim Bodnia, Darren Boyd, Sean Delaney, Kirby Howell-Baptiste and Owen McDonnell, premieres Sunday, April 8 at 8/7c on BBC America.
