“What if robots were to measure themselves against their competition?” – this is the question raised by BMW in its latest commercial, which gives the answer with a twinkle in the eye, highlighting, at the same time, that, “with the BWM Personal CoPilot driving assistance systems, BMW takes a further step in advancing the progress of autonomous driving”.
The 60-second spot, introducing BMW Personal CoPilot as “The envy of all systems”, features a man leaving his smart home where it turns out that smart systems are not quite that smart. A Roomba vacuum robot hits a table leg several times until the glass of water that is placed on the table falls on it and causes it to break, a robotic lawn mower goes directly into the pool and sinks, and a robot jumps off the roof, while the man is heading out in the driveway at the wheel of his BMW.
“Smart home? Smarter car.” flash across the screen at the end of the commercial.
BMW’s Personal CoPilot, an industry-leading driver assistance system, supports drivers on the road and helps ensure additional safety and comfort. Examples of this include the Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function, which independently adjusts the distance to the car in front of you, the Collision and Pedestrian Warning with City Brake Activation, which prevents collisions via automatic braking, and more.
This BMW feature has been named “a ground-breaking innovation” in the area of accident prevention and passenger protection by safety-auditing institute Euro NCAP and has been honoured with the Euro NCAP Advanced Award.
The automaker states that future BMW Personal CoPilot systems will give drivers more freedom to completely turn their attention away from the road under certain conditions.
