Netflix has released the official trailer for its upcoming original drama series The End of the F**king World.
Based upon the graphic novel by Charles Forsman, the dark coming-of-age comedy follows missfit teenagers James (Alex Lawther) and Alyssa (Jessica Barden) as they embark on a road trip like no other, willing to leave their hometown and search for adventure. The cast also includes Wunmi Mosaku, Gemma Whelan, Steve Oram, and others.
The trailer opens with Lawther’s character introducing himself and saying he’s pretty sure he’s a psychopath. Why does he say that? Because when he was nine he put his hand in a deep fat fryer in an attempt to make himself feel something. Of school he says it is beneath him, but it was “a good place for observation and selection” since he had planned to kill someone. The following scenes show how he and Alyssa met, with James revealing that he pretended to fall in love with her because he thought she “was interesting to kill”. When Alyssa comes up with the idea of leaving the “shit hole” town they live in, James agrees and so they hit the road. Judging by the trailer, the two teenagers get more excitement than they bargained for throughout their journey.
The song used in the trailer is the song “Keep On Running” (written and originally recorded by Jackie Edwards), performed by British rock band The Spencer Davis Group, which was released as a single in November 1965. The song has also been recorded by several other artists including John Alford, Robben Ford, The Romantics, Queen’s drummer Roger Taylor, and the Spanish rock band Los Salvajes.
The End of the F**king World is set to be released on the streaming service on January 5.
