Lexus has released the full-length version of “Long Live The King”, a thrilling commercial from the automaker and Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, featuring the all-new 2018 Lexus LS 500, created for this year’s Super Bowl.
The action-packed 60-second spot stars Chadwick Boseman as King T’Challa (aka Black Panther), king and protector of the fictional African nation of Wakanda, the most technologically advanced society in the world and ruled by the royal family of the Black Panther tribe, fighting with a bunch of men to secure the vibranium. Letitia Wright, who’s playing Shuri, T’Challa’s brother, in the upcoming Marvel superhero movie, and Lupita Nyong’o are also seen.
The brand’s LS flagship takes the centre stage as it is shown “in action”, speeding down the city streets. Its exterior design, as well as its interior, featuring leather seats and innovative technologies, are on display.
“Experience luxury performance that takes the crowd.” – the voiceover says at the end of the spot, which sees Boseman arriving at the World Leadership Conference at the wheel of the 2018 Lexus LS 500 and getting off the sedan to attend the event. “Long Live the King” – the voiceover adds.
The song used in the commercial is the 2016 single “Legend Has It” by hip hop duo Run the Jewels (consisting of rappers El-P and Killer Mike), from their third studio album, “Run the Jewels 3”, physically released in January 2017.
Black Panther, also starring Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Danai Gurira, Michael B. Jordan, Daniel Kaluuya, John Kani, and others, hits theaters February 16.
This is the second consecutive year that Lexus runs a Super Bowl ad. Last year, the automaker featured the Lexus LC and freestyle dancer Lil Buck in its Big Game commercial.
