Netflix has released the Date Announcement trailer for its upcoming original sci-fi series Altered Carbon, based on the award-winning novel of the same name.
The new show, set in a future world where the human mind can be digitized and downloaded into a “cortical stack” and placed into new bodies, called sleeves, follows, according to the official synopsis, Envoy soldier Takeshi Kovacs, played by Joel Kinnaman, who “is brought back to life centuries later to investigate the attempted murder of the wealthiest man on Earth, played by James Purefoy, and discovers that “his past isn’t nearly as buried as he thought”.
“Centuries ago, mankind discovered a way to transfer consciousness into a new body, making death a mere inconvenience. Since then, we’ve been providing an unparalleled pedigree of human sleep to only the most discerning fighter. Psycho Sec. Live forever in the body you deserve.” – a voiceover, that seems to be a robot promoting the services of a corporation, says at the beginning of the teaser trailer, which then goes on by giving viewers glimpses into the plot, which include Kinnaman’s character discovering a woman’s body in a glass container, a seemingly wealthy man holding a shotgun in one hand and a whisky glass in the other, armed soldiers in the dark, a fighting scene in slow motion, and finally, Kinnaman’s character again saying that “the danger of living too many times, you forget to fear death”.
The trailer ends with the premiere date of the series, February 2nd, 2018.
