Anna Farris returns to the silver screen in 2018 in Overboard, a gender-swapping remake of the 1987 romantic comedy starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.
Written and directed by Bob Fisher and Rob Greenberg, the film stars the 41-year-old actress as a single, working-class mom who is also a mistreated employee of a wealthy Mexican playboy (Eugenio Derbez). When the latter falls overboard off his yacht and suffers amnesia, she decides to take advantage of his state and make him believe she is his wife and father to her kids. In addition, she also sends him to “his” three jobs, which, judging by the scenes revealed in the trailer, break his bones.
The cast ensemble also includes Eva Longoria, Swoosie Kurtz, John Hannah, and others.
The trailer opens Anna Farris as a struggling mom, who’s working as a pizza delivery person and cleaning lady while studying to become a nurse, and goes on with scenes revealing how annoying the Mexican playboy was when she went on his yacht to clean the carpets. The idea to make him believe he is her husband comes from Longoria’s character, who, furious that rich people “get away with everything”, argues that this change in his life would be justice. “Oh, I want a fake husband.” – she tells her friend in one of the scenes.
The song used in the trailer is the single “Like That” by English singer Fleur East, from her 2015 album “Love, Sax and Flashbacks”.
The film is set to hit US theaters on April 20, 2018.
