BBC has released the trailer for the upcoming drama film The Boy with the Topknot, based on the acclaimed memoir of the same name by journalist Sathnam Sanghera.
Written by Mick Ford and directed by Lynsey Miller, the film follows Sathnam, a young Indian man born to traditional Punjabi parents, who grew up in Wolverhampton and was the first member of his family to go to university. Working as a columnist for The Times, in London, and living with his English girlfriend, Laura, he keeps this life separate to the one he has in Wolverhampton, until one day, when he gathers the courage to introduce Laura to his family. Soon, a painful family secret turns his world upside down and his attempt to juggle family, love life and career proves to be harder than before.
The cast ensemble includes Sacha Dhawan as Sathnam, Joanna Vanderham as Laura, Deepti Naval and Anupam Kher as Sathnam’s parents, Vineeta Rishi, Jaz Deol, Anjli Mohindra, Himmut Singh Dhatt, Ravin J Ganatra, Michael Shelford, Benjamin Wainwright, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Aaron Thiara, and others.
The song used in the trailer is the 1991 single “It Ain’t Over ’til It’s Over” by American musician Lenny Kravitz, from his second studio album, “Mama Said”.
The Boy with the Topknot will air November 13, starting 9pm, on BBC Two.
