The main TV commercial for Coles’ 2017 Christmas push reveals what Australians love about Christmas.
“I just love Christmas, I love it.” – says a woman starring in the 30-second spot, which also features two little girls, one of whom says that “Santa comes only if you sleep.”, another lady, who says that she loves “All the ornaments, the food”, and a long-married couple – two seniors in their 80s, apparently – who share a kiss on the lips.
Another woman says that all she wanted for Christmas was well placed, but she’s got a windup hose, and celebrity chef Curtis Stone, who makes a quick cameo at the end of the ad, asks “Oh, we love Christmas, don’t we?”.
The song used in the ad is a cover of the Beatles 1967 iconic single “All You Need Is Love”, initially released as a non-album single and later included on the US “Magical Mystery Tour” album.
Coles’s Christmas campaign, created in collaboration with Big Red, also includes another 30-second TV spot, featuring a cast of kids that tell what they love about this holiday, too, and an animated spot released on the Facebook page of the supermarket chain, introducing “Gingerbread Gerry”, the main character in a special series.
