Apple has released a series of new ads to showcase some of the most important features of the new iPhone X.
One of them presents the Face ID feature, that uses your face to unlock with a look, log in to apps, and authenticate payments, as “the most unforgettable, magical password ever created”, while on screen various faces are seen.
“It’s amazing what your face can do.” – a final onscreen line reads, while in the background the song “Turning Heads” by NVDES is playing.
Face ID, described as “a powerful and secure authentication system that’s even more convenient than Touch ID”, uses multiple innovative technologies, such as dot projector, infrared camera, flood illuminator, that work together in real time and use a detailed depth map of your face to recognize you in an instant. Changes in your appearance are not a problem: you can put on (sun)glasses, lots of make-up, wear a hat, or grow a beard – Face ID will recognize you anyway, even if your friends don’t. In order to illustrate this idea, the tech giant has launched another ad, featuring a young woman who changes her look lots of times and still get recognized by her iPhone X. The track used in this subsequent spot is “Attitude” by Leikeli47, the New York rapper who was always seen wearing a signature ski mask.
According to Apple, your Face ID information is encrypted and protected by the Secure Enclave and doesn’t leave your device and is never backed up to iCloud or anywhere else.
The iPhone X can be bought from $49.91/month with the iPhone Upgrade Program or from $999, if paid in full. The box contains EarPods with Lightning Connector, Lightning to USB Cable, Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter, and 5W USB Power Adapter.
