The trailer for the new heist-thriller Den of Thieves, starring Gerard Butler, has been released.
According to the official synopsis, the film, written and directed by Christian Gudegast, follows “the intersecting and often personally connected lives of an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff’s Dept. and the state’s most successful bank robbery crew as the outlaws plan a seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank of downtown Los Angeles.” The cast also includes Pablo Schreiber, 50 Cent, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sonya Balmores, and Maurice Compte.
The action-packed trailer introduces Butler’s character as “The Big Nick, the original gangsta cop in the flesh” as he shows up at a crime scene for investigation. He is also presented as being one of those who helped take down every big-time crew of robbers, and, therefore, is “feared” by the crew planning to steal hundreds of millions of dollars from the one bank that’s never been robbed, the Federal Reserve Bank.
The song used in the trailer is the 2012 single “M.A.A.D City” (stylized “m.A.A.d city”) by hip hop artist Kendrick Lamar, from his major label debut studio album, “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City”. The song features a guest appearance from West Coast rapper MC Eiht.
Den of Thieves is scheduled to be released in theaters on January 19, 2018.
