Asda tells us what to do in order to bring people together: “bring on the food!”. In one of its latest ads, titled “Big Night In”, the British supermarket retailer invites us to “turn family night into a feast for all” with “crowd-pleasing favorites”.
The 30-second spot features a couple who, after seeing their kids with their eyes glued to the smartpones instead of socializing with the peers they’re having as guests, decide to “bring on the food”. They put in the oven two large pizzas, that have the expected effect, making the youngsters leave aside their devices and enjoy the time together. When the desert is put on the table, as well, the evening turns into a home party, as other guests, most probably neighbors attracted by the smell, are arriving.
At the end of the advert, soundtracked by The Heavy’s 2016 single “Turn Up” (off the band’s album “Hurt & The Merciless”, released 1st April 2016), the voiceover mentions that the crowd-pleasing favorites you find at Asda help you “turn family night into a feast for all” and adds the retailer’s tagline, “Save money. Live better”.
